Not Making Fun of My Parents Anymore.

For the last few months, my parents have been fascinated with watching birds in the backyard. The curtains covering the sliding doors get opened every morning before anything else happens. Twice a day, my mom goes outside and refills the bird feeders. All through breakfast, they sit chattering about how the mother bird and chicks are doing and how many doves are sitting outside. Afternoons are full of anticipation waiting for the secretive quail family to pop up for some seed. And all through this I sat annoyed or amused by their fascination. Occasionally, I would attempt to photograph the bird's crazy life, never really caring if I actually caught it or not. Until today.
Today, I spent an hour taking tons of photographs of the backyard; the grass, the mother bird, the roses. Everything. Then, who should pop up on the wall....None other than the elusive quail family. I managed to capture a few frames of a chick before they disappeared under the bushes in the ally again. Anxious to capture them again, I spread bird seed around and waited for him to come back. After a few minutes, my mom came outside to join me. We sat and talked about how relaxing the yard is; how great the weather; and of course, the birds. And...A roadrunner jumped up on the wall!!! Amazed, I began snapping as many times as possible, unfortunately forgetting to double check the setting on my camera. Needless to say, none of the pictures came out. :( I did manage to catch up with Mr. Roadrunner in the ally and got an ok photograph, so it wasn't completely bad.
So, after an hour of excitement, I found myself caught up in the drama of a birds life. I don't think I'll make fun of my parents about it again.

  1. Stacey, I think you are amazing. However, you will find something else to laugh about when it comes to your parents; this is just a fact. We still love you and are happy to provide you with endless entertainment.
